CT Scanning

Through its sister company, Cavendish Imaging, Digits2Widgets has access to state-of-the-art imaging equipment, including sophisticated cone beam CT (CBCT) scanners.

CBCT is an X-ray based imaging technique that provides fast and highly accurate digital data of 3 dimensional structures.  One of the advantages of this technique is that an object can be scanned from one angle and the high-resolution 3D digital data produced includes not just the exterior geometric shape of the object from that side, but also the internal and reverse geometries.  This fully eliminates the requirements to scan around an object or to open or pull the object apart because the X-rays quite literally see through and record all of the geometric dimensions in a single pass.  As a result, this scanning technique greatly reduces errors in data collection and provides consistently accurate 3D digital data.

Once the digital data has been captured, it can easily be converted into 3D CAD format.  It can then be re-sized, manipulated or integrated with other 3D digital data for a host of different applications.  To date, this methodology has seen tremendous results in the fields of medicine and dentistry, as well as Architecture, Jewellery, Art and Sculpture.  The 3D CAD models can subsequently be 3D Printed on the extensive range of 3D printers in house at Digits2Widgets.
