Part of the permanent exhibition in the new Kensington location

ZHA at the Design Museum

To coincide with the launch of their new location in High Street Kensington, Digits2Widgets were commissioned by the Design Museum London to reproduce a series of 3D printed architectural models designed by Pritzker Prize winning Zaha Hadid Architects.

This project, Zaha Hadid’s ‘City of Towers’ is an installation focusing on the parametric research led by her practice exploring new concepts for designing and constructing high-rise buildings.

Derived from a singular concept, the installation shows the many options and iterations for a tower, mapping its variations and development process.

Large Scale Nylon SLS Prints

The scale of the models range from 10cm to 60cm in height, and as D2W have the largest volume Nylon SLS 3D printer in London, we were able to produce this range of models without having to resort to printing them in separate parts and in a rapid time frame.

This fantastic array of models will now be showcased in the Design Museum’s permanent “Designer, Maker, User” exhibit on the top floor of the new museum.

Derived from a singular concept, the installation shows the iterations for a tower, mapping its variations and the development process.

Digits2Widgets are delighted to be able to contribute to this landmark exhibition, which tells the story of contemporary design and manufacturing at the heart of the new Design Museum in the beautifully revived old Commonwealth Institute building.
